Recently went for onsite at Google. Can’t discuss specific questions due to NDA. Round 1: Hard DP question, went down the wrong path for half the duration of the round. Got multiple hints from interviewer. Didn’t have time to verify that solution worked. Round 2: Graph traversal question. Did well in this round. Round 3: Another hard DP. Got multiple hints from interviewer and even had him fix my code for me. Round 4: Googleyness. Probably did well but I heard it’s impossible to fail this round anw. Got matched with a team and then HC approval within 2 weeks of onsite. I thought Google was supposed to have a high bar lol this was my worst onsite performance in this job hunt. TC: 245 Edit: Not GCP; not minority; not female #google #onsite
It must be your lucky day. Have fun while it lasts.
This is that luck factor we always hear about.
I'm pretty sure good communication skills and attitude help a lot in those cases
^this. If you don’t solve but have a clear thought process to the solution and were able to walk me through the proposed solution, you’d still be good in my book. Especially for Hard questions. I don’t ask DP. In fact if you crank out a solution rightaway that works, without talking through it, we are going to talk through the solution most of the remaining time to make sure you understand all the why’s and what’s in the code, the edge cases etc. to avoid a chance that you simply knew the question from before or found a pattern similar to something you had solved. I will try to understand if the concepts were clear to you.
Nice thought, but preparation is all about learning patterns these days. It’s unrealistic that someone can invent complex algorithms on the spot without prior practice. And when everyone else LCs like crazy, it would be stupid to do otherwise and be disadvantaged.
Only 3 coding rounds ?
That’s how many I had in my on-site, had 1 say design and the googleyness
Do you have very specialized skill?
Hehe good old Google and their DP problems
“I got DP’d”
Level ?
I suggest you to look up what "bombed" means...
Lol. I bombed!!! (Got one LNH)
I also suggest OP to look up what "half" means.
