Would you rather get a yearly bonus or a yearly salary increase? And why?
Salary increaSe, bonuses can be taken away at any time!
Depends on the numbers. If it’s the same amount salary is no brainer
Stocks don't vest for a year
Some companies vest monthly or quarterly
But the award is still likely vesting over 4 years right? So you might end up leaving before getting the whole thing
Salary increase is cumulative. Bonuses are not.
Apart from other factors (like salary is cumulative and a gaurenteed raise) I would also think of tax brackets
If you are looking to leave then bonus for quick cash. If you want to stay salary increase is more profitable longterm.
Why are they mutually exclusive? Many companies give both...ohh but wait, Amazon doesn’t give bonuses and laughable base increases...raising the bar 🤔
Salary = Dependable and accumulates. There are years where I enjoyed a bigger Bonus because of a big immediate spend ie new house, desire for boat, baby on way. But that's exception. In general I like pay-for-performance bonuses frequently because drives team focus and behavior vs entitlement salary.
daft
Both. Salary increase is generally better because it’s not as arbitrary as a bonus in most cases
I would like to have both too but my boss would rather give bonuses once or twice a year instead of salary increases because it benefits the company
