I am planning to join as sde2 in Amsterdam. I read few posts about people getting fired in the probation period. I will be joining the same team mentioned in those posts. Is probation period really that difficult? If we get fired in probabtion, do we have to pay relocation cost like flight tickets and hotel accomodations etc? YOE: 5 TC offered: 95k
i know a couple of folks who were let go during probation at booking. no, you won't have to pay anything to the company. no, probation isn't difficult if you actively work with your manager on setting up right expectations because initial few months are difficult with relocation & so, you must be vocal about it to your manager.
Ok. Thanks! I have already went through new company + new country situation when moved to Meta. I think I can handle it. I thought booking is much more stricter that's why people are let go. Thanks for your input!

You don't have to return the relocation cost as the company is initiating the partition. As for probation, the key is working with the manager to set common expectations. What you are seeing are the edge cases which is not common.
Thanks for the info. Do you work in Booking? It says "if contract ends within 1 year, relocation needs to be paid...". It means firing of the candidate also, right?
Yes, I recently joined Booking. And again if booking ends the contract you don't have to pay.
