I want to learn about wireless software technology. Assume I am starting as a generic software engineer with skills in C/C++. What books/resources are there that will teach me everything starting from no knowledge, with the goal to be able to go into wireless software modem/baseband teams in Qualcomm/Apple/Broadcom/Intel. I want to know everything such as basics, concepts, coding, protocol (i guess this is in spec sheet)
You would need to study text books on wireless communication, information theory (maybe), signal processing. If you want to learn about more system level thing, you would need to find some course/text about 5G design.
There are some books about 3GPP 5G standards. Unless you find a mentor with industry experience, it’s easy to get lost.
Internetworking books are not very helpful because most of them are on later 3 and above except the Ethernet or ATM. Wireless communication are totally different beasts
But why this direction to move to? People in that fields have been moving to other places. Apple is probably the last very profitable big player. That is a very sad area. Super cool 15 years ago but not anymore.
Possibly true in terms of compensation - there are limited options compared to Distributed Systems / ML / OS roles, but definitely an interesting area with lots of exciting problems. Some growth use cases: - Internet of Things - AR & VR - Wearables (including Health tech). All of which are in Apple's backyard.
This book: CWNA Certified Wireless Network Administrator Study Guide: Exam CWNA-107 https://www.amazon.com/dp/1119425786/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wFz1EbSE1B2W2 This online course: http://divdyn.com/wireless-adjuster-course-level-i/
This book is about WiFi. That’s not much related to 3GPP stuff. Well one of the radio is WiFi. Wifi-calling throughly IMS. But this focus is still a LAN technology that is much simpler than the 5G world

For these types of books, will they explain everything to someone who has never done wireless stuff before? Can a generic swe read this
This book is good if you want to understand from protocol perspective of how network and UE(user equip) signaling works. Great for beginners
If you want to start from basics, start with YouTube videos e.g. a channel “3G4G” provides good short videos. After that, you will know enough terminology to understand the ideas in books on cellular tech.
This looks promising. Thanks!

That's WiFi tho
WiFi comes under Wireless. You did not mention what specifically in Wireless you are looking for.

Start with computer networking.
I already took a course on networking. They discussed TCP/ip , the internet, etc. But does not talk about CDMA , QMI, 5G NR etc.
Which course did you take for networking?
