I'm a software engineer carrying the entire mobile app department because I AM the mobile department. There is no one else. I do full stack, including server management, APIs, cloud infra, etc. I do everything. He pays me jack shit at 3 YOE and he's bishing cause I don't wanna drive in 4 inches of snow tomorrow morning. What do I do? #SWE #SoftwareEngineer #Mobile
Would not advise you to quit on a whim (especially if you are on visa). But do start looking immediately and aggressively. Anyone who makes you drive in harsh weather to do a job that can be done from home is a total asshat. So get out of there asap. Also, what does he say if you ask to work from home?
Im a US citizen. Bossman guilt trips me telling me it's unfair and it's not a part of company policy for snowdays.
You don’t want to do the one thing in your control. These new hires. such snowflakes!
Well I need an income and I'm getting rejected from other companies. I'm sort of stuck.. Been stuck.. For 2 years now...
Then you're not good. Accept it and get better. Stop LARPing as someone better. Ego only brings you so far.
Take a few sick days.
Well, why the fuck should I? Right? We only get like 6 sick days a year.
OP has huge ego and small pp skills.
Thanks.
Update 2/12, 10:46pm: I agree with all your statements on my ego. I'm just inflating it for ONCE because of frustration. The fact that I'm responsible for so much.. For something that is client-facing, it's so fucking stressful. I'm not the best SWE in the world, but goddamn do I work hard. I can't deny my effort. Please help me try to navigate through this tough time. I'm at my breaking point.
Dude relax. You dont have a big ego or anything of that sort. I understand where your frustration comes from. When you hold the fort up single handedly, it is completely fair to expect to be treated better. I have been in a similar situation in the past. Try sitting down with your manager and explaining that you would like more flexibility on certain days. Dont bring up the whole "I do everything around here", but do emphasize that you work hard. If this doesn't work (and there s a good chance it wont), all you can do is grind and jump ship. If you are good at leetcode, why not apply to companies that do leetcode interviews?
I really thank you very much. It seems like you're the co-worker I wish I had.. But I've never had. I will try to do my best and hop ship. I have shit luck I guess even though I killed most interviews. But fuck it. Leetcode it is.
Wish you the best. Also, the job market is quite rough at the moment. So even if you aced an interview, dont take it for granted. Nothing is final until day 1 of the new job. I ve been burned for trusting the interview process blindly. They come up with all sorts of excuses to reject candidates.
I had a wakeup call when I moved from DC to Nyc and there were no more snow days

Wish it was as easy as that. I had so many companies reject me even though I am overqualified for their positions. Most recent one was an AI / Robotics company who claimed I was perfect for the role but then turns out they reject me a week later.
