TLDR; Dont confuse Bothell with the nearby shitholes that RE agent also sell as Bothell. I am long term resident of Bothell (10+ years). I saw many confusion related to the area when people discuss on blind, so thought of putting my view on this post. Bothell city is actually small and of similar size as Kirkland. But there are 5 more cities/un-incoporated areas that people often confuse as Bothell, but they are not part of the Bothell city - - Northshore - Mill Creek - Martha Lake - Silver firs - Maltby (Some parts) Majority of new constructions are in the rural part of these areas. Commute time from these areas can also add additional 15-20 minutes in comparison to Bothell. RE agents also show these areas as Bothell, but just type this in Google map and the area shown is the real city area. Similarly school districts and many of the schools are average or bad in these areas specially with Edmond school district or Everett school district. Coming back to the Bothell city, its actually great with Restaurants, Schools, Commute time. Pros of the area - - The restaurant scene is great and some of the best woodinville wineries and Kirkland Marina is 10-15 minutes away. - From a commute perspective, Bellevue is 25 minutes away. - For Seattle, there are 3 different highways and I always choose the one which waze shows as best - I-5, 405, and 522. Majority of the time, commute is 45 minutes during peak. - Middle and High School are really good in the Northshore school district. - Canyon Park office area has many companies tech offices including T-mobile, AT&T, Philip and smaller office of Google, Evernote, and few startups. - I also have a rental SFH in the area and the demand for rents are so high in the area that the most time it stayed vacant was for a week. - Proximity to Cascades (so you don't go to the crowded Snoqualmie for Skiing). Cons of the area - The density is increasing really fast with many Condos and Mega Town-Home communities (500+ homes). Traffic will become bad. - The area is in a creek and does not give you the typical PNW feel (you look out of the window and see great views of Cascades/Rainier). - It has lot more Indian and Chinese percentage in Schools in comparison to Bellevue/Redmond. - Old people - This area was traditionally a retirement home communities area.
TL;DR: There's better places to live instead of Bothell
Still won't buy in Bothell. Why would I spend more to live farther in Bothell. There is no waterfront nearby, have to travel to Kirkland to get one. Lynnwood is nearby which is high of crime. Better live in juanita area or woodenviy
Kenmore Waterfront park is literally One Mile away. And than there is Sammamish river just going from the city.
Joke
It almost would have been, if the name wasn’t like BrOTHELL
Read it as brothel
Never gonna buy in Bothell city. Super far away (yes even the city is far from civilization) and schools not great compared to Lake Washington, Bellevue and Mercer Island school districts
You named the top 3. Which one is the 4th in Greater Seattle area - Northshore School district.
people from Kirkland, Redmond, and MI must be feeling the same way as Op does for MillCreek , Silverfirs etc. Also, why would anyone prefers 4th spot leaving top3 lol😂
Been in Washington since I was born. Only places I’d ever live is Edmonds, Kirkland or Mercer island.
Why Edmonds? Woodinville is better I would say
DT bothell is great
For all the people shitting on Bothell here - DONT frickin buy. We are more than happy with the community we have here. Bothell, especially south Bothell is awesome. As a person of non-Indian origin, I love the culture my Indian friends have brought to the city I grew up in. For those who are open minded enough to try the area and get past the name(🙄), come on over. Bothell is one of the best kept secrets in terms of real estate. Friendly neighbors, well kept, clean green streets, good schools, a strong sense of community and a proactive and good Police department (dad was a LEO for 22 years in the Bothell PD). It is suburbia that is(or was, parents bought our home for 110k lol) affordable to middle income families, and appeals to people who like suburbs(evidenced by the fact that people are buying in at 1.5M+ to get in). If you want the city life, and the tires stolen off your quarterlife crisis Teslas, move to Seattle. Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.
lol ok as someone living in Seattle area - would rather live in Seattle and send kids to private school than pay millions to live in crappy bothell. But tell yourself whatever you need to justify living in overpriced suburban sprawl that has nothing to offer for the price you pay and lose your sanity commuting on the worst highway in the area- 405
Jazz you summarized the problems with Bothell pretty well. Outside the cute name, and even cuter downtown - you hit the nail when you mentioned 1.5m to get in. Which brings us to the question of why would anyone pay 1.5 for a starter how when it’s not a whole lot different than Kirkland or other Eastside towns. Glad your parents did the the 110k investment!
Newport or East Renton highlands ( issaquah school) is better by a long shot
Issaquah school district has lower ratings than North Shore School district. North Creek High school specially is among the top High school in the state.
TLDR
Was in the first line.
Need a TLDR for the TLDR. WA is a shitshole
