Apple brazenly refuses to comply with local laws. The Brazilian Ministry of Justice ordered in September the suspension of iPhone sales in the country after concluding that Apple harms consumers by not offering the power adapter included with the device. Even after million-dollar fines, Apple still fails to comply with the requirement – which has now led to the Federal District-based consumer protection regulator seizing iPhones from retail stores. As first reported by Tecnoblog, Procon-DF has seized “hundreds of iPhones in different retail stores in Brasilia,” the capital of Brazil. In an action named “Operation Discharge,” the regulator aims to force Apple to comply with local law that requires smartphones to be shipped with the charger included in the box. According to the report, the iPhones were seized at carrier stores and authorized Apple resellers. The regulator has ordered the banning of any iPhone model that lacks the charger included in the box. Although Apple stopped shipping the accessory for free with iPhone 12, the company also updated iPhone 11 with a new, more compact box without the charger. After the iPhones were seized, Apple Brazil requested the government to allow sales of the smartphone in the country until the final decision of the dispute. The company told Tecnoblog that it continues to sell iPhones in Brazil despite the operation. https://9to5mac.com/2022/11/24/brazil-seizes-iphones-retail-stores-charger-requirement/
Doesn’t matter the next model will not have any charging ports
Apple gon Apple
Corporations bigger and stronger than entire governments lol .. helpless govt vibes
Yep. I know it’s not the topic but an evolution that’s important when discussing free speech in the US. Some people (rightfully) like to bring up that the 1st amendment protections apply to the government but is it still valid when some corporations sometimes have more power than the government?
Well said, Course Hero
This may not turn out well for Apple I’m the end
Regulators gonna regulate. If people want a charger they can buy one. Optionality is better for consumers and the environment than forced bundling of products people don’t want or need.
I like that they didn’t add it. Apple was no doubt trying to save money but it reduces ewaste. I have a bunch of those from previous phones. That all ends up in landfills. It is better to reuse
This is why you don’t do business in third world countries
Probably just coasting until the next release.
It's very on brand for Apple though. They pay millions to EU regulators (like the recent Dutch payment case) in penalty without attempting to resolve the underlying issue because these penalties are chump change for the behemoth compared to short and long term cost of fixing complaince.
