How have you handled breaking an apartment lease during job relocation?
Find someone to rent your apartment/house. Depending where you are i believe landlord has to make good faith effort to rent the place. Just make it super simple for them
I did. The company that manages the apartment offered a lease settlement comprising 2 months rent in addition to the current month. Hope this helps.
If i break the lease, I'll have 2 pay 2 month's worth of rent. I guess i was more interested in knowing if any of you have negotiated with a company to pay the fee if they want you to relocate?
Yes, before signing the offer
And my apartment does not allow subleasing/subletting
What state you breaking the lease in? FL most they can charge is 2 months and if they lease it prior to that they have to refund the rest. VA they can charge till end of lease or until there is a new tenant. I have dealt with it in a few states since most contracts I took between 09-17 lasted between 3-6 months, and I could rarely find M2M leases back then.
Relocation pays for this most of the time too (if your company is paying for it). The other option is finding someone else like the other poster said. For me I asked my apartment place. "I'm considering a job offer. I'd like to know my options since it's in a new state."
Those were my options, but it should say it in the lease / talking about it should help. For me it was double rent to leave.
How is it legal to charge $35k for breaking lease. Find shouldn't be more than 2 months of rent
