Anyone have any insight on what life is like at Brex? I joined Stripe from Google ~6 months ago and it is a nightmare. Team is locked in a perpetual sprint. Regularly getting slack requests from my manager at 230 am. Absurd quantities of fire drills. Internal data is a mess. I’m looking to make a move the second my equity vests this fall and am curious about Brex life. I’m non-tech. Tc $275k LCOL
In a more existential sense, I’ve got quite a bit of senior leadership exposure, and the majority of them are not in a good place. I don’t work with Dhivya or the Collisons, but next level down, and there’s a huge amount of strife and political warmongering. Multiple folks at the Director+ level are super concerned for their jobs right now. A lot of folks are being pushed out and replaced with old heads from AWS.
Who are some of the folks at that next level?
I am expecting an offer from Stripe today or Monday. Don't scare me like this dude...
I think well-being is super team dependent. There’s also incredible comp upside even with the avg structure. People at the IC level are kind and very smart. There are cool benefits. The founders are inspiring and the mission of the company is super cool. There’s a lot to like about the company. My situation just isn’t a great fit for me.
I’ve been on a few teams here. None of them were like OP’s. Doesn’t mean those kinds of teams don’t exist, but they are not normal.
Which team do you belong to op? Eng pm ux?
What makes you think you’ll survive till your vest? Stripe is famous for kicking out people weeks before their vest, with nothing to show! And don’t believe this doesn’t come from Divya, who threw millions of families on the street at GM or the narcissistic Collisions who think they are Ed Sheerans!
My role is extremely under resourced, I’m well regarded, and I’m in a critical function. I’m not concerned about being fired.
Wow. What a shit show there. My life at Brex is nothing like that. Thank goodness I rejected the Stripe offer (was higher at the time).
Such comments about stripe freak me out. Have interviews scheduled and now o don’t know if I should even go through these
I mean, definitely go through with it! It’s a great company and I’m super bullish. I’m just in a rougher spot there!
how’s the pm org there?
Check the post a few days ago about morale at brex
What the hell team is this if you're not on call and expected to respond at 2am. I've been on several teams over 5 years and never crossed anything like that.
Stripe is the next Amazon. DM me for a Brex referral😛
By toxicity only
How difficult is Brex interview?
You don’t need to reply at 230 am though. It’s just that your manager is working hard.
There is a culture in my org of responding as quickly as possible. Over half of my team has attrited over the last six months, my recruiter quit, and my manager has been open about his desire to leave as soon as possible.
That's not working hard. It's being an asshole and setting a horrible precedent for the team.
