Google always look fancy to people who are not in. For SWEs i see lot of growth opportunities but for TEs it's not the same. I have following problem with my current role: 1. TEs in Google are not QA. They are more of SWEs. Most of them don't get chance to build tool because tools are pretty standard across Google and only few team work on tools. 2. You work on whitebox testing with lot of times changing dev code and configs 3. Project availability - you don't get exciting project to work on. Most of good projects are US centric. 4. [Major item]Scope for growth - I am looking to move to tech manager role or IC promotion in few years. I have to move to next level and then i can move to managerial role. Additionally, Google heavily depends on number of Changelists for promo candidate. I am not pro coder. To give you an idea, a team mate promoted to next level from my same level and his no of cls are 300+ in an year.. i hope you can understand the level of impact required to move to next level. I don't feel comfortable doing so much of CLs which burn me out because I was basically developing tools or doing frontend/api automation. So, i am looking for opportunity which can help me move to managerial role in couple of years without insisting me too much on coding. YOE: 12+
