Build cost in Santa Clara cty?

I looked into this and it was on the order of 500K - but the true cost and what led me to stop investigating the project is the headache and pain of finding trustworthy architects/engineers/general contractors/subcontractors. You’ll basically be a full time PM managing this project for a year plus, dealing with permits and beaurocracy and unreliable or potentially dishonest contractors. So if building is your passion, go for it, but think long and hard first because the true cost is likely more than the cash.

Depends on how many bathroom and how luxury it is. It could be anywhere from $300 - $800 per sq ft.

My boss built a house. Did not ask what the total bill was, but after witnessing all the hassle which took 3 years, major investment of personal time and included getting sued by the neighbors, I am not going to build a house.

I almost bought a land in Cupertino. Expect arnd 1 year for building a house in best case and 400$ per sq ft in avg case as mentioned by others it might go higher if u go with higher finishes

Looked into it about a year ago (NYC area) same sentiment as above - cost saving erased by the time investment. You can find company that will handle everything for you but in that case house will come at the premium and unless you are very picky about that you want it simply not worth it
