Hi Blind community! First Blind post! I have had a lot of colleagues recently make switches to tech industry but never realized the large TCs in the industry! So I was hoping this forum can provide some guidance on next steps! I was hoping for referrals or advice on Amazon care, or any FAANG healthcare division if it’s a good idea. I have been grinding and grown to a director role at a globally established brand but not seeing the next step here so it is time to shift industries. The TCs are terrible and outlook is even worse. I have done it all, from being a med device rep to the national analytics architect to now running the entire commercial org with many direct and indirect reports. I do want to mention I am the youngest director at this company in recent history and they have treated me well with a great WLB. But TC just is not up to par especially compared to other industries where I know I can apply everything I have learned, learn new skills and and help Orgs grow. Looking at BD roles or roles that have partnerships and strategy involved. Even roles such as Partner manager. Current industry is Eyecare, would love something in VR glasses like Meta with Rayban stories or Amazon with Alexa glasses. I can shoot over resume if anyone wanted to review! TC: $85K Base + 20% Bonus + $75K RSU ($25K per year for past 3 years - vested over 3) YOE: 7 Education: Biomedical Engineer (Top school in Canada) #tech #healthcare #eyecareleaders #meta #amazon #google #netflix #apple
Right off the bat if titles are important to you then don’t try FAANG. You are not going to be anywhere near a director. At the same time, if you want to talk about healthcare initiatives at Amazon (retail, amazon business, care, pharmacy, halo, COVID test kits, AWS) then dm me
Good point, I’ve noticed this that even if you’re a director level elsewhere coming into FAANG you’d be considered a manager at best. I’m not entirely sure of the “levels” everyone talks about but I’d guess with my YOE I’d be looking at something like a L5. The TC makes up for the title in my opinion. And the innovative products and company principles make up for it as well! Sending you a DM. Cheers!
What location(s) are you considering?
Honestly. I’m located out of Denver CO right now. But don’t have a huge preference. Obviously would prefer somewhere where COL is lower but open to almost anywhere depending on the opportunity and organization. in Canada and USA for the most part.
As mentioned, Amazon healthcare roles would likely be your best shot. First step is doing the job search and seeing what matches, then you can strategize...
Not FAANG, but feel free to DM if interested. TC: 130k base, 15% bonus, 250k RSU vested over 5 years YOE: 5
