With about 1.5 years of business/finance analyst experience at a Big 4 firm(Deloitte/PWC), is it possible to transition into a PM role? Friend has no engineering background (studied finance). Would they have to get a MBA in order to transition? Has anyone done this career jump before? Would love hear about your experience/journey!
After MBA, Amazon will hire you as an L6 Product Manager regardless your prior background was engg related or not.
In short no. Not going to happen even in the lowest tier no name company. If your friend doesn't have pm experience get an MBA as a Jumpstart.

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
As an external hire, not very likely, program manager maybe, but not product. I have friend who used to be BA and join Amazon as L4 program manager. I been Amazon for a while and just changed to product manager, and I don’t have an MBA, you need to find a manager who is willing to invest and take a bet on you
How was the lateral move if you don’t mind me asking?
