Snowflake's IPO date is 9/16. Where & how can I buy Snowflkae stocks? Sorry, this might be super basic question. I have never bought stocks before. Doing it for the first time. #ipo
You should do a lot more reading before buying any stock
my 2 cents: individual investors need to be very familiar with the industry and have sufficient knowledge about stock valuation, otherwise you are better off with index fund, which saves you lots of time and money (and potential emotional turmoil)
Thank you for that advice. My 401K money through in Fidelity is invested in couple of funds --- AllianzGI tech fund & Fidelity contrafund pool. Are you talking about those kind of Funds? Which are the best ones?
@Petsmart: You should read up fully on this and implement it for your portfolio first. Only AFTER you've done this on 90% of your portfolio should start buying individual stocks. Please do yourself a favor and skip SNOW for now. https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/How_to_build_a_lazy_portfolio
Thank you for sharing that. I will read it up today.
If you haven’t been investing and don’t have much experience, I would reconsider taking on so much risk. Obviously you can buy Snowflake on many investment platforms now as it is public (ex Fidelity, Schwab, ETrade) however, it is so new and there is so much uncertainty when it comes to IPOs. As stated above, there are other investment options that can give you equity exposure while mitigating single stock risk such as ETFs. Good luck!

Once they are listed any major broker will be able to buy shares on your behalf. Fidelity/Morgan Stanley/Robinhood/whatever floats your boat. As an aside, if you’ve never bought individual stocks before I highly recommend staying away from IPO...it’s super risky and For your first go can be better related to gambling than investing
Thank you! Didn't understand your part 2. Why is it Gambling? I thought it's expected go up in short term anyway. With Salesforce & Hathaway investing, the long term doesn't look bad too.
I am talking about IPOs in general; they are highly volatile. Yes it is possible that snowflake doubles by end of week, it’s also possible for them to drop by 50% by end of week which is what makes this gambling. I think long term snowflake has a solid outlook and plan on investing after they post their first Q results as a publicly traded company. Investing before then and you may find yourself bag holding for three years fighting to get your money back. Sure it may mean you miss out on 2x or 3x profits, but if your goal is to 2x or 3x your money in a few days of trading, that’s just gambling.
