The next big layoffs target after recruiting? https://www.wsj.com/articles/executives-lose-a-coveted-status-symboltheir-assistants-f161f6c9
As an EA, they are 1000% a necessity and save time and money in so many ways. We handle so many aspects from project planning, event planning, assisting in business needs, making the executives schedule more efficient in a zillion ways, etc. getting rid of them would ultimately cause more harm than good for execs
I've been in a company that removed the assistants years ago. It didn't matter, for the budget spreadsheet guy they are a cost center. Same person that thinks it is a good idea to extend the lease period and lower the specs on the developer machines.
EA make the business run. Be nice to your admins if you want your career to go anywhere.
Wow. I wondered about this.
Never happen. Executives and Directors would have to start scheduling their own meetings, managing their calendars, plan lunches, book travel arrangements, submit expense reports, etc and etc. Also, who would order office supplies, deal with broken printers, call facilities for a stopped up toilet, and all the little crises that occur everyday? SWE’s?
fully grown adults can't take care of it themselves?
It’s not about not being able to take care of yourself it’s that it’s incredibly time consuming and would require outsourcing for a lot of tasks. Execs don’t have time to plan their own events, plan their own projects, expense reports, etc
If you’ve ever worked directly with an EA you’d realize how valuable they really are.
EAs are very valuable
EA’s are incredibly important and should be protected. Getting rid of them will have negative impacts long term. IMO.
A good EA is worth their weight in gold. I haven’t had a good one since 2018, when my company decided to outsource EAs to Philippines and Brazil.
All the discussion here will be about zero EAs vs 1 EA per Director. There’s no in between, obviously
I think Meta gave M2 EAs? If the M2s get squished by the flattening there should be fewer EAs.
Folks of the world - let’s praise on Op on being such a slime n bottom of the ocean thinks that world works this way. Must be a resident of Tech or DS who thinks works is round and that’s it. EA are necessity and unless u hv run a business or know how to run a business which you don’t as business folks don’t slander with exception of musk n trump - u hv no idea how world works.
Did you even bother to read the article? Why did the post trigger you? Be mad at the WSJ.
