Splunk takes stupidity to another level. With one trick pony written 10 years ago, the charade, facade and drama they keep doing can only be deciphered by Cisco. In every company I have been at, there is a fairly regular cleansing of directors and above. It was rare there and stupidity keeps going off the charts. I for one, am glad I have the opportunity to take time off and look for next opportunity.
So you got laid off? Sorry to hear that, and I had a feeling Gary was brought in to dismantle the company for sale.
Yes. I am. They can do whatever they want. It is a skillset regression to stay there for 4 years. First year - talk, second year - doc, third year - show intermittent interest to do something, fourth year - everyone forgot about it, move on to something else. In a company with one revenue stream and struggling, almost everyone follows the same journey. The stupidity around cant even recognize the issue.
Sorry Splunk. Better things ahead. DM if you’d like a TikTok / Bytedance referral - we’ve got plenty of open roles
Thank you. I will DM you next week. Taking this week to get the PTSD inflicted on me, out of my system.
Tikttok hire to fire
Gary figured out the golden parachute at Proofpoint, after he failed to grow the company for 15 years. Everywhere he goes will be the same story.
He positions company in a certain way. His VP and Directors+ are clueless about it and if anyone subtly reminds them, they get upset, mad and angry. We could not tell if what he is telling is sham and bogus and they are playing good cop, bad cop or there is a genuine disconnect. Both are serious problems that should have been fixed. Instead of that, he has been going after no name ICs repeatedly.
I feel for you. He’s a smooth talker.
tc and yoe
Bitter ‘cuz you got laid off there. Otherwise why you stayed for so long?
This is a free forum for people to share their thoughts without being questioned about their motivations. Please feel free to form your own opinions. I am telling you this without any spite.
You will get over it. Chill.
Same boat as you but I was cut last round. Mentally I checked out early this year so I took my cut with a bit of gratitude lol.
Great to hear. Did you find something you like? I would like to believe we all lead productive and disciplined lives. It makes us grateful on most days. My observations about Splunk are from the time I was in the company.
Not yet. I booked a trip to take a small break so starting interviews now. However, holidays coming up, this could take longer than expected. This is a new chance to find something we both like. There were a lot of good parts about Splunk - but the bad stuff weighed over time which made me lose trust. My director was literally incompetent af I don’t understand how they remained.
Cisco is struggling a lot. Previously they had big pricing power. Now arista has caused significant reduction in margins. Besides other companies like panw, VMware and cloud providers have pushed Cisco from once high flying back to earth. There is enormous consolidation across multiple businesses especially in switching and routing as multiple families do same features be it’s segment routing/vxlan or plain l2/l3. So they are merged. Merge means massive layoffs. Cisco push towards software is not going in right direction. Plenty of failed acquisitions like appD, Webex, jasper, Springpath/ucs etc many other . Cisco thinks meraki will be future but now that’s only bu where some growth left and investment come. Splunk as per your data has bad leadership, so does Cisco. Both companies seem to be similar in terms of shrinking market cap
Does not Cisco have good churn of bad leaders? Splunk rarely did. One incompetent or rest and vest Director+ gets to that level, they stay there forever and everyone in and around them has to be that way. If not, they will hound you down. One had to keep doing wrong thing or nothing. By end of this week, I am really looking to mentally detach from this trauma and move on with my life.
Yes, I had worst mgr in Cisco . I was abused and later changed teams. If I go back in time, I regret not reporting to HR or employment lawyer. High number of rest-vest mgrs and directors. Lots of fake work. Crazy $hit load of politics. Too much lobbying and inner circles. Many mgrs are technically 0, but have no communication skills or mgr skills. They bully as they know majority of people are on h1b visa and they don’t complain. Bullying is to extent that it’s just saying we are 0 knowledge of what’s happening around. List goes on and on.
Even cisco is stupid. So stupid meets stupid then
I got let go last month in a silent layoff which I assume is due to Cisco's Splunk acquisition. I am glad I am out of this bullshit company.

Israeli precision-guided munition likely killed group of children playing foosball in Gaza, weapons experts say
I mean come on, a tracing platform? How large do you think you can get with this miniscule product
If Splunk is so simple why is every other platform utter garbage? Datadog is a toy.
