Amazon vs Lockheed Martin
I am currently in my early 30s and I plan to get married soon and have kids in the next two years. I have offers from Amazon and Lockheed and I am deciding between the two. Amazon- TC 130K, program manager L5 Lockheed- TC 110K, Senior planner Both positions are virtual and I plan to stay within Seattle area. I know Amazon pays little more and will provide better growth opportunity, but I dont know if the long hours and PIP culture is worth it at my current stage of life. Which one should I pick? Current TC: 90K
If you want to raise those kids without stress and have a good family life with a stable job that gives you zero stress then Lockheed Martin. However the downside is at LM your compensation will probably stagnate onto a yearly raise type of basis. You're unlikely to get those incentive compensation raises. Also the tech and work overall might not be that interesting. And prestige, you won't be able to superficially inflate your self worth by saying "I work at Lockheed Martin" as much as you would saying you work at Amazon. If you want money money money so that you're not too terribly involved in your kids life but you can buy them anything they want and afford to ship them off to boarding school then Amazon. Also Amazon for cooler projects and tech, and career advancement overall. The risk is stability is way lower. Every day you're fighting for your right to remain emoloyed. At Lockheed Martin once you're hired you're in, they're not evaluating you with an eye towards piping you.
You can always leave after 2 years with Amazon on your resume, prior to having kids
After working at fb I’m itching for that WLB, I couldn’t imagine raising a family under this workload/stress. Like Microsoft said, If you want to be around and watch your kids grow choose LM
If you want wlb then its LM..if you want more $$$ and switch jobs easily then Amazon
