Basically know I am getting the axe and have been discriminated against because I was “candid and clear” in giving feedback to my higher up who asked for it repeatedly. Saddest part is higher up is going to implement my advice as per recent all hands. Just canning me on the way for daring give constructive feedback… Anyway any referrals? OP, while it's easy to flog yourself for the 'mistake' you have learnt something. Leave it at that. The market for a 4 yoe at this salary point is lacklustre today, unless you have a PhD. etc. Why don't you do this: continue working with BD as long as possible and give good vibes to your manager - share some positive comments about him in 1:1 (be tactful, don't sound patronising), seek his help in dealing with some issue - what do you suggest I should do kinds where he feels important. On a parallel track start leetcoding and applying everywhere without putting a constraint of salary figure. By the time you land any job, you will have clarity on what to do. Best of Luck !
Did you give feedback in their review?
I 90% said good things and said it in a very polite way but yes I did include areas where they should improve in their review.
Smh. This is frustrating to hear this conversation when Bytestyles are pushed so much.. You trust innately you follow Bytestyles and you’ll succeed and stay “safe”.. and obviously that’s false.
Yeah… I learned my lesson. Won’t speak up in the future until I know the person really well.
*checks @OP YoE* Ah, of course, that makes sense. It’s one of those lessons we all learn early in our career. Now you know. Good luck in the next job.
Is the lesson… never give your manager “constructive feedback”?
Yes, pretty much Because as your manager if you’re willing to talk about my shortcomings in a “candid” fashion then I now have to worry you’re talking that way to my peers and manager You have to learn how to either not care and take whatever shortcomings your manager has, or how to be smooth politically and ask a lot of questions/make your manager think the change is their own idea Positive demeanor and acting like everything is awesome is the only correct play
