CANADA IS A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY

even the doctors are BROKE. Doctors in Canada only make around 185k cad a year. This translates to 135k USD. In 2024 the average house in Canada costs 703,875. Doctors can’t even afford housing, not even close. Economically, Canada is fairing like a 3rd world country.

Then there are people whose rental properties went from 300k to 2.5M between 2019 and 2023. The housing bubble that never busted Doctors in 3rd world countries can afford mansions, btw. If you're a doctor in India, it's raining rupees.

🤡 135k a year is 🥜. If you want to settle and die broke do it quietly.

So you think doctors have easy jobs and no skills?

Home affordability isn’t how you rank countries, dummy. You don’t like it, go elsewhere.

I live in USA. 🇺🇸 (somewhere Canadians can only dream of, a place of much higher opportunity wages and cheaper housing than Canada) I’m sorry you were born in a third world country but: Wages, home affordability and QOL is absolutely how you rank countries.

Damn 😂

I am a Canadian who moved to the US 10 years ago. First of all, the 185k per year average doesn’t sound right, it is between 200-300k, lower for a rural family practitioner, higher for a big city specialist who puts in overtime. As for the standard of living, Canadians are definitely poorer, definitely not third world, more in line with European countries (and we’ve all heard the term Europoor). With that said, Canada is still a pleasant place to live, though the authoritarian excesses during the pandemic and the heavy handed euthanasia policies give me some pause.

A lot has changed in 10 years in Canada from what I’ve heard. For example the average home price was 300k CAD 10 years ago, it’s now over 700k.

Agreed, I do visit every year and stay in touch. Some of friends who are homeowners are telling me they couldn’t afford a home today. They live in houses that make them feel rich but they definitely feel the pinch of inflation in the grocery store. Just looking at the cars on the road, compared to the Teslas and other luxury cars so ubiquitous in the Bay Area, I see tons of Corollas, Civics, Elantras, etc. I am sometimes shocked how little even tech workers make with similar experience as myself.

The average salary for a physician in British Columbia is approximately $280,350 per year1. Keep in mind that this figure represents an average across various specialties and experience levels. Some doctors may earn more, especially specialists, while others may earn less.

They need to pay business expenses out of that income. They run their own practices.

Canada has been over immigrated to the extent there is not enough housing, jobs, university slots, healthcare and basic infrastructure for the locals. The US is not that far behind Canada. I am a dual Canadian-US citizen and will never live there again.

IMC life2quant OP Apr 18

Really scary that it’s happening in the US. Everything’s doubled and wages are going down in the US. It’s obvious that cheap labor is being imported to keep wages down across the board.
