Ouch, feeling that unwelcome hurts
About time we have a dedicated country for the fascists, yeah let's make the US white again, that'll make it great again. I see a real uptick in manufacturing - coal and steel are greater than the industrial revolution! They now have a triple trump burger for the MAGA folks here as well.
:)
Canada is being smart. They’ll capture generational talent. As an American this bad because we’re giving up structural long term cumulative advantage. See similar things in China.
“Generational talent” - hmm. A brief reading of immigration categories shows that this talent is being retained using the EB1A& EB1B classifications.
Generation of talent.
Umm. I think it's more like Canada gets the second helpings of those who can't secure work visas.
Work visas are lottery based. So Canada might be getting the first helpings too.
Plus anyone with a spouse who wants to work
This presupposes that the ones get the work visa as the most qualified. It’s a damn lottery.
This
But then again no one said people here were smart so yeah, category error
@qwerky That is the most ignorant comment I’ve read on Blind today. “Second helpings”.... why don’t you do some bedtime reading before posting on here?
I'm Canadian, and by second helpings I mean the scraps you get when you go for a second helpings at a buffet line. The bottom of the barrel. The crap nobody wants. Why don't you make an actual point instead of saying your argument is stupid and walk away.
Actually I take that back, it's not really the crap no one wants, it's just the people who can't get visas. I actually think because tech jobs are so much more abundant in the US that there are many more skill-less people getting hired in the US. But honestly, when is the last time you heard someone say they want to move to Canada because of the job opportunities? Of the career growth? The only people on here talking about moving to Canada have been the same people worrying about their visas and Green Cards.
I'm not so sure. Did any other place get even slightly close to 'silicon valley' in all these years? The alpha talent still has ways to migrate to USA or have reliable startup visas if they choose to (eb1, national interest,o1,eb5 etc). Generic talent can always be replaced over the next decade. Will there be more % of unicorns or key innovations in other countries? Yes. Will US 'lose out' to Canada? Absolutely not.
Fair point but structurally this tilts the field. And this is a “more shots on goal” scenario here. Eventually the next tencent or Alibaba will manifest there that should have been here.
Tencent, Alibaba, Aliyun, Flipkart in India etc are unicorns because their respective markets are that large. You see globally relevant security companies from Israel, but apart from that there are no patterns of new globally relevant technology from other countries. Few examples exist but not a pattern.
Srsly?
Their fast track visa seems to be a hit and has attracted closer to 320k ppl last year which will naturally and gradually increase demand supply and new businesses
Attracted to which companies? Are these consultancies misusing it? Again?
