So Series B? How big is the company and how long has it been around?
Here's a good link to refer to: https://www.askthevc.com/archives/2007/06/what-are-typical-compensation-numbers.html It doesn't have CMO but you can estimate your basis points as a percent of equity. Exact dollars may not be super helpful if it's early stage so you probably need to look more at your % of company you're getting as a non-founder.
They are post Series A. Have around 50 full-time
Two rounds of funding and their priority is a CMO? How many C-levels does it already have?
I believe they have a CEO, COO, and CTO
Get the fuck out. No reason for a Series B to play company.
What do you mean by play company?
It’s when idiots start companies, hand out executive titles like nobody’s business, but without a need for any of them to exist other than title inflation
150 to 200k base and equity on par w other non founder execs
How many years of experience do you have? I'm 27 and have interviewed for marketing director roles for startups just to test the waters and ended up having an open discussion with a recruiter about this - she said she doesn't see higher base than $200k ever and even $120-150k is normal for people with 15-20 years of experience. (Bay Area) Startup funders like people who believe in the vision and willing to take less cash for more shares. So based on this and the fact LA pays a bit less, id say $150-200k base and equity.
I do think the market is changing a bit. A number of companies I know of at series b and c have been paying their VPs or execs 200 or even 250 now. That being said, a CMO is usually considered a luxury and doesn't come on board until a later round.
You mean 200-250 base+bonus?
Curious how this ended up? I’ve been a CMO and hired one. As a first time VPM 5 yrs ago at startup at that stage I made 180k base. Paying my own VPM 200k base now and 250k OTE. Median is 225k OTE at that stage. Series B/C gets to 250k. Equity is around 1% at every stage upto C. Very top notch CMOs easily command 350k-400k cash. Get hold of VCEPS salary survey or ask exec recruiters for latest comp.
Base I’ve seen around $250k but total comp I’ve seen close to $1M at larger startups (Lyft, AirBnB)
