The word is out. Google’s reputation takes a nosedive with Main Stream Media. https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/20/tech/google-layoffs-employee-culture/index.html TC 450k Yoe 15 #google #amazon #meta #microsoft
Oh, the irony. To talk about Google's reputation in the same phrase as CNN... 😁
CNN must be running out of people to throw under the bus.
I was with OP until I saw the CNN link, then the reputation part didn't make sense anymore.
It still seems like a good place to work for me, there's just no massive reason to go there over anywhere else. I'd have to prep more for the same money and it's not like they're a safe place in the storm. Honestly I can't think of a good reason to go there. I think more what we're seeing is that being part of the T5 doesn't carry any informal job insurance like it used to. Which is fine -- it happens to every industry eventually, it was a nice run. It just makes sense to evaluate more competitors now (including medium sized companies with comparable pay).
I am one, will never go through crazy leetcodes just for google. Plenty of fish there that would pay more than google, now that job security is no more
> CNN > reputation Lmfao
Meanwhile Apple hasn't done a mass layoff yet but they've historically been called a hated company for working their employees to shit. So whats the conclusion here? Also since when is CNNs word on reputation and morals valid ?
Apple is a hardware company though. As long as those iPhones keep selling Cook will keep cooking them dollars
The sad truth is more than 60% of softies want to work there but didn't meet the bar. Chatgpt was just a weird way of avenging the rejections (Closure?).
I worked at Microsoft before Google and would go back in a heartbeat if the money was better.
That's a big if
“Google has for years been known for providing its employees with perks such as in-office childcare” > This sounds like we get free daycare while it’s the most expensive daycare in the area ($4k+). Mostly affordable for VPs only. Journalism these days…
There’s people like me who support physical infrastructure. Besides the food and peer bonuses I haven’t really noticed a difference between Google and say Amazon. Has been the same shit to me. I’m sure the two are wildly different for tech roles. Edit: Vesting schedule at Google was a huge plus though. I mean that blew my mind when I first realized I vested quarterly vs Amazons “if you make it until” bs
CNN beint CNN. Why are we even reading that crap?

This is stupid. Short of getting bought by Elon there is virtually nothing that would hurt Google's reputation. You and all your friends and family still want to work there smh
Not with a down level and/or low ball offer any more… their reputation’s value definitely took a hit.
Agree, the people who say that Google’s rep is shot are the ones who can’t get an interview or pass one.
