Even when doing it by yourself, you are still technically paying for the software via turbo tax, HR Block etc.
You can print the PDFs, fill them out, and send them to the IRS. No tax software needed.

What's wrong with doing it on cash app tax (previously credit karma tax) for free? With the exception of a few edge cases, they mostly cover everything.

How did y’all deduct mortgage interest ?- since 1098 has entire interest paid (regardless of principal) and we can deduct only on $750K principal.

For trivial returns (salary, stock trading, house), it’s a waste of money.
$0. "Free fillable forms" is the way to go. It'll teach you a lot about taxes.
