I saw a Googler ( Male ) hit a lady multiple times in the cafe, should I report?
My Masters is fully funded. I work at Microsoft ADC (African Development Center). My TC is 🥜 I want to relocate and I was considering the internal transfer route, but I have a fully funded masters opportunity at the University of Waterloo. I am kinda torn between what to do, please advice 🙏🏾 #tech #microsoft #canada #relocation
Waterloo has a good CS program. They are especially known for their HCI program. Try to get some research experience while you are there. Research experience with your previous work experience at MSFT, should make a strong resume. Maybe try an internship with a research team in the summer. If you stop only with a MS you can try to research engineering roles. If you pursue a PhD (which I would recommend only if you get to work with a good advisor) then you can apply for research scientist roles. Your pay at the beginning after graduation with a PhD will kinda be only on par with L5 levels but PhDs are generally last on the list for layoffs and career growth might be faster (ofc depends on other factors). Good luck 👍🏽
Thanks a lot for the advice! My program is research based
MS. Nobody has ever heard of the university at all. Probably a bottom tier
Are you kidding? U Waterloo is a good uni
You gotta lot to know in ya life if you don't know about UWaterloo lol
The University of Waterloo is a good university. I have done my MS after about 7 years of working in the tech field. Like you my Masters was also fully funded. I received a great research experience while doing a Masters. It was certainly worth it.
And ended up in Intel. Sigh!
He’s probably in Canada and has few options to make good money
Waterloo is synonymous with defeat OP.
UofT spotted! Yes, if you see Waterloo, it's likely a defeat!
oof turn around now big uoft energy coming from the comment section
😂
Do you have msft on your resume already? If you are interested in relocation long term imo waterloo makes sense. It will help you establish roots in Canada at the very least.
Yes I do
Thank you!
Go for Waterloo to build your future beyond Microsoft. Eyes on the long term
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Does a Canadian Masters help you with US visa in the future?
It can!
Love your name
Haha thanks it’s the name of a Character from a game called Skyrim. It’s actually spelt “paarthurnax”
Yes I understood and huge party snax fan myself. Never listened to the blades telling me to kill him
This depends on what you want … UW seems a good fit if still in early career phase.if not, if you can make it on transfer then it’s better. With 3-5 yrs of exp & above, its about your skill than degree xcpt you get a PhD & carve a niche. Btwn ADC 9ja/Kenya?
At the risk of sounding bias… it ultimately depends on you… some more context on motivation and aspirations can help you decide what is the best fit… btwn UW is good, & u don’t have to be early career
🇳🇬 & I have about 4 years of experience. Moving is major for me, and the thought of doing a PhD creeps into my mind from time to time. Thank you!
