Saw this post. Seems tech industry is not only laying off now, but we are also going to have massive influx of CS graduates going forward. A huge bubble in the entry market coming in as entry jobs shrink while CS grads explode in size. A Computer Science degree in the next half decade is going to be the next Philosophy degree. Younger generation heading into Computer Science now might face a very different reality out there along with rest of the world all emphasizing 'coding' on top (the images below is just for US colleges). I see huge deflationary forces coming in the way of software pay in the entry market next half market. Add on tech industry no longer booming in growth like it did in the past.. and you get the idea. Thank you TikTok, Youtube, Instagram, etc. for making this 'software engineering' such a trend. We are creating a huge bubble for the next generation. I doubt institutional investors this decade are going to be fooled as much by 'infinite growth' for negative earnings. And I doubt institutional investors are going to keep throwing money left and right to crypto ponzi scehemes. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with the coming competition at the entry market.
Quantity < Quality
Competition breeds better talent too. So that statement isn't completely true. And what is 'quality' anyways. I presume the effect would be similar to the dot com bubble for the entry market. There's going to a huge boom followed by a lack of people interested in the field (due to feeling betrayed). I feel bad for the younger generation heading off to major in CS right now. Maybe the following generation experiences the benefit again.
What we still grow. Just a minor oullvakc. More jobs rhab pre covid???
brother are you having a stroke
No, see ny post her [Blind] Check out this post! Since you all had so much fun with the last one, here's my "OMG I'm so excited!" Pre Layoff Edition!!!! (Misc.) https://us.teamblind.com/s/iDU48Aea
Been that way for years in India.
You forget that Home Depot, Walmart, and USAA can’t hire enough engineers There are jobs for them and legitimate needs, the tech rush during Covid deprived all other industries and companies of engineers Not everybody needs to be in Bay Area tech. We need people working out of Shreveport to do engineering work for retail or manufacturing
The caveat is that your TC will be half early on and 1/5 late career, and that's being generous. People are getting those degrees with the hope of joining tech companies with fat margins.
Just like you have top law firms and smaller, less successful onces, what stops us from having the same for tech? (Spoiler alert: nothing) This entire thing is overblown. Yes, there might be more CS grads but tech is growing at a crazy rate. Not everyone could withstand the cutthroat culture - or even wants to work in FAANG
Looks like the next attractive jobs will be in the humanities. Always zig when everyone else zags. Time to found a new religion to reform the heathens of the world.
Yup, boom and bust, that's humanity's fate.
