Hi guys, I'm a digital design engineer in Ireland who has received 2 decent offers for senior positions, and I'm really stuck. My gut says Cadence, but even after 1 year with Qualcomm the RSUs would result considerably more money, and would feel stupid turning something like that down. Am I being blinded by the golden handcuffs of RSUs? Cadence: Salary: €73000 + €2220 lunch allowance on top of salary Bonus: 10% RSUs: $30k over 4 years with potential refreshers annually Pension: up to 10% employer contribution for 6% employee contribution Life Assurance: 4x salary Relocation: €3000 Other benefits: 9 'recharge days', €29/ month gym allowance, €20/month internet allowance, €950 work from home allowance within first 60 days Qualcomm - slightly different role: Salary: €65000 Bonus: 9% New Hire RSUs: $60k over 3 years (1/3 after 1 year, then 1/6 every 6 months) Bonus RSU target: on average $25k over 3 years (same vesting schedule as above), varies from 0-150% Pension: up to 8% employer contribution for 7% employee contribution Life Assurance: 3x salary + income protection (2/3 salary in case of long term disability) Relocation: €10833 lump sum Other benefits: 4 'recharge days', €500 yearly 'wellbeing' allowance (gym), dental cover - Both employers have 25 days standard annual leave, ESPP of up to 15% and health insurance for me and dependents. - Both employers are offering a 'hybrid' WFH model of 2 days a week in office with some flexibility. Other things I need to consider - - Want to apply for a mortgage in the next 2 years - Cadence will eventually be opening an office near my home town - As regards work day-to-day, I think the I'd find the team - Qualcomm more interesting. - Qualcom will require a move to a new city. YOE: 4.5 TC: 83k (contractor) UPDATE: Cadence have now upped the RSU package to 30k. Still almost €7k TC difference in year one, but a lot more cash on hand with Cadence.
Qualcomm
You should be looking for the golden handcuffs. Take Q
Qualcomm undoubtedly!!
Do they give refreshers in cadence?
I feel compensation wise Qualcomm is better for the next subsequent year. Do you consider work-life-balance? Have you checked with both companies or someone who in that team?
You won't get stock refresh in cadence, even if you get it's very low. Compared to Qualcomm, cadence work culture, work life balance, flexibility, environment is better. If u go with cadence u'll have to sacrifice stock grant for upcoming years thats the only drawback.
Pension scheme seems good in cadence. Around 16% returns by giving 6%.. But we can withdraw it only once term is finished? Any intermediate withdrawal allowed?
Cadence badly needs people, negotiate hard if you're willing to compromise on the role. Also they plan for 3 days WFO from 2023, probe them there. Again, salary will stagnate real quickly here, make sure you hedge for that by negotiating hard.
OP - i have the same exact offer from Qualcomm. I have Bachelors + 6.75 years of experience. Have you done masters? Seems like QC has sent me a lowball offer

Purely from comp perspective: Go for Qualcomm. 1/3 of annual refreshers keep getting added to the 1/3 of joining RSUs and close to 60% get more than the target RSU refresher.
