Came to me from a #Google employee

Why am I leaving? This goodbye is bittersweet. I've enjoyed working with you guys very much, and some part of me regrets this departure. But the truth is I've been upset about several things going on here at Google for several years, and it's been wearing on me. To put it simply, I'm tired. I'm tired of being banned from visiting the office for choosing medical privacy over convenience. I'm tired of the threat of termination hanging over my head since November for the same transgression. I'm tired of feeling like I work for the Ministry of Truth, with a snowballing amount of censorship happening at YouTube, in Search and Ads. If you had told me 5 years ago Google would be censoring comedians for offensive jokes, a sitting president for claims of election fraud, and doctors for discussing off-label Covid treatments, I wouldn't have believed it. But this is what Google does now, and I am very afraid of what comes next. I'm tired of the constant political virtue signaling coming from leadership whenever something tragic or controversial happens in the US. I'm tired of things like the Inclusive Language mandate, seeking to ban common cultural phrases such as "you guys", "blacklist", "ninja", or "sanity", and leave us all talking in soulless robotic corpspeak, always afraid of offending each other. And I'm tired of how afraid everyone is to speak up about these things. Google spends a lot of time and money on diversity and inclusion, but the truth is that diversity of thought is not welcomed or wanted here. Opinions running contrary to the hive mind are usually met with outrage or "I agree, but I'm afraid to say so publicly". Speaking up at Google can have long-term consequences for your career. #google
