π₯ Let's spark a debate! How much actual code do you think firmware engineers write compared to application/full stack developers, AI/ML engineers, or game developers? I agree there is lot of domain knowledge which is needed to develop Firmware/Driver code. Imagine this: Language models can now dive deep into data sheets (PDF) and crank out driver-level code! π€― What's your take on the future of firmware engineering teams? #engineering #hardware #semiconductor Already using Co-Pilot at work?
AI is going to replace almost everyone
hows magna OP? been thinking about applying since 2016 π
Try your luck
may i dm you ?
Low level rag based gpt is already available but not trained with training data. https://chat.openai.com/g/g-VEABZoJPE-rtl-gpt
When I worked as a firmware engineer, most of my job was reading documentation and linking things together. Although I was making prototypes with significant impact on the company, itβs not rocket science, and it seems like AI can do a good job
I don't think AI currently has or is close to having sufficient breadth of ability to find and process really obscure information. AI is great for writing helper functions, doing basic things that are well understood in a language, etc. I don't see AI being even remotely close to figuring out the order of toggling the EN, CLKEN, and prescaler registers on a comms peripheral on that one chip that nobody's ever used that released 13 years ago any time in the near future. It'd have to go through paradigm shifting levels of improvement to be there
is think its exactly the information an AI will do better. more decision making including verification time, cost analysis etc may still be with humans. i guess time will tell π€·ββοΈ

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
Already training a llm model to do this. Wait until this goes online! π
Lol
If intel has this in the works, I'm not worried
