Can Amazon L6 considered staff level?
Principal Engineer (L7) is a bit more analogous to “Staff”. Check out levels.fyi
🙏
lol I thought that was the case. Most people here take levels.fyi to be common knowledge by now
Staff roles and responsibilities are similar or less than an Amazon L6.
What does L6 do? Also ops work?
BS. Plenty of L6 I know are 100% IC with zero responsibilities beyond their own technical delivery
L7 PE equivalent of staff L6 is senior engineer
You cropped too high. There is an overlap between senior at Amazon and staff at Google.
Click on it, it’s a full photo of all levels
Funny how different industry’s use “staff”. It could mean the janitor or it could mean the executive team. No one really knows the root of this sorcery
There is overlap between L6 Amazon and Staff ranks at other companies. There is also overlap with L5 at Amazon and senior ranks at other companies. Amazon just expects more from their engineers.

L6 at Amazon is a very wide bad, It really depends on your tenure as L6 and your skillset. Too half of L6 definitely should aim for Staff and even Sr.Staff at some companies.

I actually think it’s a level higher than staff
lol
I know many L6 or L7 SDMs. I thought OP was talking about managers.
