Can fertility benefits (i.e. via Carrot) typically be used by not married partners? I.e. my long time girlfriend is thinking about egg freezing and my new job that I'll start in a few weeks has Carrot fertility benefits and were wondering if we'll be able to freeze her eggs. Thanks in advance 🐣 TC: 510 #insurance #medical #health #fertility #benefits
I think you have to qualify as a domestic partner (meaning you live together/share bills) you don’t actually have to be married for health insurance purposes
If they are on your insurance as a domestic partner then it’s usually allowed.
No, she is covered by her own insurance benefits. Even if you were married, usually she’d still need to actually be on the plan. She might be able to join your plan though as a domestic partner to qualify.
Eligibility is plan specific. You’d need to ask your insurer. Most of them only extend benefits to covered individuals and limit coverage to married or registered domestic partners/civil unions recognized by the state government.
Your partner can only use your benefits if they are already covered under your plan, i.e., a domestic partner. If not, your portion of the fertility testing will be covered, but your partner's tests will have to be done under their plan.
Actually…. Ask your HR rep… There are many cases that if you can prove your bf/gf is your long term domestic partner (typically at same address), they would then qualify under your health plan and be eligible for many of the benefits. But again, to be sure, ask your HR rep.
And, don’t forget to pay taxes on the imputed income of the insurance benefits.
Most likely no. I’ve tried this and they always say we have to be married. They don’t care if you’ve lived together for 10+ years. Most insurance do not recognize domestic partnership unless you’re married on a paper. I have yet to hear anyone successfully get their boyfriend/girlfriend on their insurance
I have…both at Microsoft and my old job which was at a small company. There’s an option for spouse to choose domestic partnership (this started back when gay marriage wasn’t possible)
Microsoft and Google allow BF/GF/unmarried partners to be on their insurance and both cover fertility treatment without being married.

You might want to check if USAA's insurance covers mental health benefits.
