Graduated in niche field with few jobs outside working on 40 year old nuclear power plants. Saw a cool, relevant posting for working on 🛰️ at a defense co and joined up. Made pivot to software a bit ago for MUCH better job opportunities, and now I want out of the defense/space industry completely. Can’t believe it’s been 5 years already. I have been steady working on my own iOS app thinking I want to do iOS professionally but really I like working on the backend as much as the actual app (love Swift though). I think I’d like the variety of work in a ‘full stack’ job. Any recommendations for fixing my resume, gaps in my experience, and what companies or industries to target for next steps? There are ts clearance jobs in Amazon and Microsoft then once you have that you can mention those companies as non defense
Thanks I’ll look into these
This. There are groups at Microsoft, Google and AWS that cater to the federal government that require clearances. One of my friend's is at Microsoft in such a group and receives a salary adder for his clearance. You also will only be competing with citizens for these jobs.
Concentrate on your concrete achievements, not just on what you did and how. E.g. did x that resulted in y (numeric measure). Confirming above clearance jobs, in fact MSFT is currently hiring. Most of these are location-dependent, though.
Lie on your resume.
