Title says it all. Workplace is like slack on steroids. I’ve already been given work that has deadlines, I don’t even understand what I’m doing yet. Manager keeps talking about “impact” and how IC5 is a pretty senior role and seems to be hinting at starting to perform. My anxiety is through the roof and this place is too fast paced for my age. Does it render me ineligible for rehire if I quit after two weeks? I have other offers to fall back on. Also worth mentioning that I was extremely lowballed. TC: $168k (Non technical role) Edit 👇 YOE: 10 Age: 41 (with family + 2 kids) Thanks in advance. Edit Edit: Thanks for all of your comments and DMs. The positive ones far outweigh the negative ones 😅 Things are still pretty fast paced but I’m getting used to the culture now. Definitely not for me long term, I won’t be staying past the 1 year mark. Also got a new manager, who is also trying to learn the domain and adapt to the culture, so the “impact” thing is nothing to worry about for now. And yes, with my professional background & yoe, I was definitely lowballed. Literally had a co-worker confirm this during a non-work related conversation we had. #tech #meta #facebook #faang

How to relocate out of Blue areas?
What’s the role, your YOE and maybe a bit of background? That might help people answer better.
Post updated with YOE. I’m a Content Designer. Thanks.
The least useful role at Meta
Sure, quit and take some time off if you can afford it. Not sure why you'd want to be eligible for rehire if you're looking to get out after two weeks though
💯 If it sucks that much the first time and it's not a tradeoff for comp, why even consider applying a second time? I would just get out. If you bail that quickly, potential future employers should understand that something was wrong. It's Meta after all. 3 to 12 months is where bailing starts to look like more of a reflection on you.
If you quit after 2 weeks, just take a different offer and leave FB off your resume.
Marketing?
I’m going to give you some tough love. No, 2 weeks is way too soon. You worked hard to get the role. Take a deep breath, and say to yourself, “I got this” l. Remember they hired you for expertise. You got this.
@New I really do appreciate your comment. I also know a thing or two about tough love and resilience. I immigrated here 11 years ago and I worked my behind off to get where I am today. But I’m getting to the point where my body is telling me to slow down. Also talked with a few of my colleagues yesterday and they said to get ruthless with setting boundaries. I’m willing to give it a little more time but this is really not the life I want in my 40s.
If you do, just leave off resume. Sorry your onboarding experience has sucked so far. Be up front with your manager on what they should expect from a brand new hire, and you and them agree on a game plan. If they’re sticking with “impact this” “impact that”, I might walk away too
Age? YOE?
I’m 41 with 10+ years of experience.
Is it that stressful at Meta? I am also 40+ with 2 young kids.
Quit and don’t put it on your resume. We all make mistakes. I left a job after a month because it absolutely sucked.
What division?
What do you mean to fast paced for your age? How old are you?
I’m 41 and I have a few health issues I’m dealing with. Their workplace thingy is like Facebook and Slack on steroids. Can’t keep up with the notifications from the bajilion “important” groups I’ve been added to. I don’t know how to explain but it’s not helping my mental health. I don’t even use FB irl.
Sorry to here about your experience so far. The hiring manager expecting impact 2 weeks in is unreasonable and a red flag
Too much adderall usage at Meta
Dude, there are just so many nerds here. No one does fun drugs here. Sad.
What are fun drugs? Coca?
Sure, just walk out. Don't even need to tell anyone. What are they going to do ?
Agree here. If it’s so shitty after only two weeks it might not be the culture for you.
Definitely tell someone to avoid wellness check and emergency contact being called. Granted this is rare, I’ve only had one company actually call police to do a wellness check and contacted my mom lol
