By searching online it seems IRA or 401K can’t be used to exercise options. But just read the article of Peter Thiel using IRA for exercising PayPal. Isn’t he a co-founder? How can he use it. Thanks!
He has a Roth … different rules for different IRAs. I can buy a herd of cattle and put in a Roth. I could buy a bar and grill and put in my Roth. I can buy real estate and put it in my Roth. I could buy a strip joint and put it in my Roth. … as long as I purchase those with funds I already made with my Roth.
And private equity and VCs can do tricky things when they’re extremely early investors basically assigning 0 value to options and equity when they put them in a Roth.
Yeah I also mean using Roth to exercise stock options. Is that OK? Based on Google it seems not

Are your options administered by the same brokerage that hold your retirement accounts? If so, ask them. If not, how would you mechanically accomplish it? I bet Thiel held his founder shares in the Roth, from the beginning......
