Considering an offer from Ibm Cloud for senior software engineer role. Can Ibm folks share some info regarding the culture?
Dude even CrapOracle is better than IBM for cloud
Ass.ure it is
Don't worry.. When oracle cloud goes the way of VMWare or Rackspace, at least the lawyers will be employed
looks like Ibm folks are happy and no one has time for blind
I'd also appreciate any IBM folks speaking up here
How are you going to explain that downward trajectory on your resume?
Honest question: why do you consider IBM a downward trajectory?
Because their dev is slow, nothing innovative and they are not considered a top company in SV unless you have a time machine to take you back to the 80's.
What's the offer and location? At what band? IBM base salary can be comparable to big techs but that's it, there is little sign on bonus or any performance bonus at all.
Cloud is the buzz word at IBM. It's the top of the 5 imperatives CAMSS and a good area to be in. Culture varies by team. I love working with my co-workers but not the managers. A lot of works are being sent to India for lower cost so prepare to deal with early or late calls, spaghetti code and clueless devs. Just that IBM pays very low in India hence the quality. It's a very political place so up your politics game to move up.
Also negotiate hard on your offer. Once you are in, it's very hard to get a promotion or pay raise. A lot of people have to leave then come back for salary increase.
Any thoughts on Watson and the health initiatives?
I'm looking at band 8 in SF. Not really sure how that maps to salary as Glassdoor and others seem to suggest it's far below standard bay salary
Sounds scary! Thanks a lot for the info! Svl band 9.
Depends on the team and business unit really. Work life balance is definitely much better than Uber if that makes you feel better.
Yeah, I am definitely looking for work life balance. Thanks! That definitely helps!
Many IBMers want out because of the perpetual threat of layoffs ("Resource Actions" or RA) or "forced" relocation. The company is still struggling to grow revenue, and they have brought in outside leadership who don't get why IBM was valued by clients in the past. If your offer is competitive and at SVL, you should be immune to RAs for a while before they offshore the work. IBM will probably be a lot better for your life than Uber based on what I've read here in Blind.
