Can one stay in the bay area without a car?

One wants: Comfortable life. Safe life. Be able to go around with some flexibility. Can one stay in the bay area without car ownership. How's public transportation scene? Would one end up paying up for uber rides and surge charges? I am a person who would rent a car at the airport of the city I am visiting rather than using uber. Uber is very expensive in practice (when distances are slightly more than 10 miles )

You need a car everywhere in the US except for maybe NYC. Our public transportation just isnโ€™t that good here

If you can afford to repair it everytime someone breaks into it or steals your catalytic converter.

You may not need if you live in Fremont and your employer runs busses.

You can also use Uber, depends on how many rides you need per day, week...

Hm yes let me move to the most car centric suburb in the U.S. and not get a car. Genius idea
