Im considering joining Snap because 'i like the product.' And their userbase is expanding in developing countries.

I have worked at TikTok US core tech for 3 years. AMA.
Watch their investor day presentation, that will give you some good insights. I was in a similar boat lately and decided to join.
I would say no. Anything that Snap can do, TikTok and Facebook do better. Snapchat benefits from capturing the younger demographic that Facebook struggles with but TikTok has started to gobble those up. From a monetization perspective, Facebook is far ahead of any competitor. TikTok is a better user experience than Snapchat even if it is somewhat limited. Snap is destined to die. It’s better on augmented reality but in that space Microsoft and Facebook are the industry leaders. Microsoft for augmented reality in general and Facebook for AR/VR Gaming. From a regulatory perspective, I do not think Snap has the financial, talent, or diversity of revenue to shrug off any potentially damaging changes. I would revisit this question in 2 years after the EU and US work out international tax, the EU gets concessions from the US that it can use to finally pretend it’s a major player in tech, and the Biden administration loses the House or Senate. Political views aside, it’s very likely and without both chambers a president has to be less ambitious with policy change which results in gridlock and more stability for industry.

People think that tiktok is taking snaps market but fail to understand that both apps are used for totally different things. One is primarily used for communication and another one is for entertainment. Snap could monetize a communication app (lot companies fail to do so) and constantly innovate on new product ideas will make sure it will continue to grow. Lot of these "snap will die" posts comes from people who don't use snapchat and feel that facebook copying stories have killed it, which is clearly not the case
AV/VR as a market isn’t fully developed yet: the technology is improving to deliver a good experience (Oculus Rift 2 is great) but strong consumer interest and supply chain isn’t that great. Facebook is trying to push the industry to develop because it knows it cannot do it alone but it is well positioned to take the lead on AR/VR Gaming and Social Experience. Facebooks ideal world is that people stop using iPhone and start using their headsets while other companies who have played with their open source data and code develop world class apps and experiences. Facebook would then control the headsets and App Store the same way that Apple controls iOS and App Store.
Their CEO simped for a VS model who is 7 years older. Just saying.
She used to be one of the hottest VS models though so I don't blame him lol.
We already hit 100B at one point 🤷♂️
a month ago it reached 115B @73$/share.
Not saying you guys won't do it again but DoorDash also reached 75 or 80B at one point and I don't think they will get there again anytime soon. Then you have companies like Dbx that is still trading at 1/2 of its ATH from 2018.
100B or not is not a good indicator of the long term success, imho. Growth in emerging markets doesn't translate into revenue growth as there is no spending potential. Besides users in those countries are likely to switch to a more local alternative. Snap is innovating but that looks more like a struggle for survival than anything else. If you want to join to make a quick buck or two while they are alive and paying well, go ahead. If you want to bet long term, stay away.
A lot of made men in big tech in this thread overlooking volatility has potential downsides AND upsides. It’s all a gamble anyway but silly to say snap is dead when it’s still alive. Also, FB is becoming pretty bloated so no telling if they can hold on in the future either for all it’s current stability
Yes + Evan promised 50% revenue growth (not a financial advice, DYOR)
Yeah, that is the only futuristic info i have for now. Apart from skyrocketing stock prince since last year.
they are being highly innovative (lenses, maps, ar, streaks, glasses, etc) and all products are genuinely cool
