Can someone from FAANG give honest advice?

Whats it like working for a FAANG company? How did you get even your resume seen? Can I send you my resume and get feedback on it? My resume seems to get rejected.. I’m a product designer, 5 yoe and trying to get my first faang in my resume. I’ve been with comcast, pnc, and siemens. Any advice is appreciated 🙏 Yoe: 5 TC: $160k #job #referral #design

FAANG productivity feels low due to all the planning and paperwork eating into your velocity. But it ends up balancing out because you have so many more customers than you would elsewhere. I like to use a geological analogy: time plus pressure equals diamonds. You'll also encounter a lot of value subtract talent, even in management. Part of your job as a high performer is to route around these damaged nodes, and maybe repair one or two once in a while.

May I ask how did you get in? I got rejected from two product design roles at meta today 🥲

My CV was ignored until I moved to the US and got in to a 2nd tier tech company. Then I easily got interviews and offers at Apple, FB, Google. How it’s like working here? Perks and WLB are amazing. Colleagues are very sharp - I’m used to being the smartest in the room and now I’m average. The work is unfortunately not that interesting. Lots of risk-averse processes & the complexity of working with such a large code base saps productivity. Overall I love it here and would need a significantly higher offer to leave.

Very hard time to get in, the market’s hyper competitive. They’ve been doing more hire-to-fire at Meta a la Amazon recently. I was at Meta and came from a more varied background, as did all product designers I worked with.
