They are all definitely very talented, but the only ones hiring right now are mid size/smaller companies that have different sets of challenges (such as scale) Can someone from big tech adapt to these companies with different culture/perks/needs? If you are from big tech are you going to go to a smaller company only as a stop gap arrangement? TC: 200k
Not really sure. As I read on the blind most of are LC pros and system design expert.. these mid size companies are mostly hands on and framework specific.. so not sure if they survive or thrive..
Exactly my point. The culture and needs are so different that it's almost like a different world
Relax. It's just CS at the end of the day. And only thing these folks have proved is they are better at LC than most.
If you thrive in the bottom up culture, no.
In my career, I moved between different teams/companies a lot, I have the skills needed to ramp up on pretty much any technology very quickly.
A lot of junior to mid level with only FAANG experience would struggle in normal companies. They're not used to not have dev tools and deployment pipelines tailored and developed by hundreds of infra/platform engineers.
Exactly the reason that they are less desirable from an employer standpoint as well
It all depends on the person and the management at these companies. I’ve worked with some ex google ppl and they are always shocked at how fucked up devops can be at most organizations.
Right, these smaller companies don't have the $$ for setting up the infra. They are almost always in a survival mode
If you can't adapt to new tech stack, tools, processes....you have done very limited software engineering. One of the downsides of big companies.

Only thing they might have to adapt is the TC 😕
There's a lot more to adapt than just TC. Lack of process, tools and perks. Time to market is different as well.
Doesn’t matter. SWEs are built that way. We have been using different tools, process and can cook and do laundry ourselves. But getting back to old lifestyle is the big deal here. People have mortgages to pay and families to support. Visa employees have the hardest, will be willing to join any company that sponsors for the time being.
