How is the software engineering tech scene in Vancouver/Torronto area? Given opportunity within Microsoft, Salesforce, Okta would you settle in Canada long term or would prefer US locations? What are the parameters you would consider?
The difference being “opportunity” vs “opportunities”. In TO and Van City you get paid less and still have very expensive housing. And don’t forget the cold winters in TO. Also far less opportunities.

Lots of things to consider. 1. Are you an American or Canadian citizen (or green card or PR card holder)? Or are you on a visa? 2. Vancouver and Toronto are WAY different. In terms of location, culture, work opportunities, industries... 3. Microsoft doesn't have developer jobs outside of Redmond and some limited jobs in Vancouver. If you want to work for MS in Canada, its more likely a job in the field.
To answer your first question.. If you ever saw salary related question or the comparison like this question .. Your response should be automatically downgraded to Indian level.. It is Indian who is asking such absurd questions not Americans
Wow.. Stereotyping does not get old any where.. Tired of racist tirades.. Needless to say.. your comment is just as crappy as your English.. Go find a grammar book and get well soon..
I'm from Toronto and moved to the bay. Limited opportunity in TO by far, no contest.
Things have improved a lot in the last 2-3 years. Now, Toronto is a center for AI and much more
Not really. Though future looks more promising. A Senior Dev at Spotify or other good companies makes $110-$120k in Toronto. In Microsoft/US, a fresh grad makes that much.
Why pick these three companies?
Speaking from experience Salesforce pays very well in Canada compared to other companies. New grads range around 140cad definitely before you go into any of these get an offer with someone else to negotiate. In comparison though new grads in sf will get around 180usd for Salesforce.
What is the base/rsu breakdown? I didn't get anywhere close to 180
From what I heard from interns with return offers it's 130-135k base 25k signing bonus 60k rsu + 10% bonus for amts and mts. I don't know how that changes though if you just get it straight out of college.
There are very few jobs for non Canadians / non Americans that is what I found out when I was searching for jobs . I love maple syrup !
Smaller company = more breadth of experience = better learning opportunity = better career trajectory

For one, it's nearly impossible to buy a house in Vancouver, much more expensive than Seattle or even Bay Area from what I hear.
Not true, it is cheaper than Bay Area
^ Maybe cheaper, but the pay here is one thirds.
