I've been through a lot of onsites recently, and last night I sent a cancellation email for an on-site today. It would be nearby me, so no hotel or flights or anything. I talked comp range beforehand, and they gave me a top band but amazon came back with an offer that's way higher than their top band. And I would really prefer the work at Amazon right now in my career. But they still seemed interesting and I didn't want to burn bridges. I'm just really not feeling it today, had no sleep the night before. I don't want to waste engineers' time or my time/PTO either. Is this unprofessional and will this burn bridges? Edit: old total comp $94k new total comp $167k
Oh, you absolutely might be burning a bridge, but you really can't worry too much about that, based on the situation as you described it. They may not view it in the best way; they should appreciate you opting to NOT waste their time, but even if they do blacklist you (doubtful), you're not doing anything sketchy or shitty. Congrats on your Amazon offer.
Depends, what company is it?
Congrats! I think that’s fine. I had last minute cancellations too, and I appreciated that the candidates didn’t waste our time, even though it was really late notice (like 30 min on the day itself)
TC or GTFO
Nah, not necessary.
Not to you maybe
What if they make you an offer you can't refuse?
Doesn’t matter. No bridge burning. They are trying to push you so recruiter save her ass. Honestly, the company doesn’t care if you join or not 😊
No, you did the right thing, absolutely. Doesn't affect the interviewers at all; they just have more free time now since it's akin to a meeting cancellation. Who'd be upset about that? Recruiter/coordinator might be very slightly annoyed, but this is a part of their job, it happens routinely, and if they're at all professional they'll just move on to the next 10 candidates that they should already have in their pipeline.
Thank you everyone. Feel less guilty now. So excited about joining amazon
Don’t go. If you don’t clear due to health and sleep then you will have history with them and you will have cool off period . Next time you will apply they will say you failed last time in ATS.
Yup that's another thing. My girlfriend was sick all night last night and I got no sleep taking care of her. It's a bit rough today. Glad I cancelled
No. That’s completely fine. Other company will be a bit annoyed but understanding and would rather not waste their time if you’re gonna say no anyway.
