My H1B didn’t get picked and I have to leave the country in 8 months but I need a car temporarily to use and purchasing is not a wise option. Is a 2nd hand car better than leasing ? What would be a ideal option for me ? I am a hertz gold member too TC:126k
Rent monthly using corporate codes on Hertz (if you have one available). It will cover insurance as well, as you can mark it for use for work (instead of leisure). This may well be cheaper than leasing itself. Also, it earns you a ton of points on Hertz and credit cards.
Another option is swapalease.com
Don't mark it use for work, that should be against policy and if something happens, the insurance won't cover it plus your company might get to know too that you violated the policy.
20-25k toyota to be safe, easy to sell
Use public transportation
Leave the country earlier if that's an option.
Factor in 10% sales tax (if you live in CA) that you will pay upfront for a used car.
you don't pay taxes on private party sale (off course illegally)
Buy a used car and then sell it.
Move closer to work, public transportation and rent.
Most places in USA have a shitty public transit systme
Used car or lease takeover that is expiring soon
If youre not looking to come back to the US, finance a really expensive car with a low monthly payment (84 month plan). Drive it, treat it like trash and leave it in airport parking lot when you leave the country. Also dont make a payment for the last month. They take a 60 days to mark it delinquent anyways.
