Car service by owners manual or service advisor?
For your car service do you go by owners manual or whatever service advisor recommends? Should one get the car serviced from dealership or independent mechanics? Do service advisors in dealership try to make money by recommending services earlier than required? I own a 2013 Toyota Camry and the service advisor is recommending changing engine air filter, cabin air earlier than suggested in owner's manual. He is also recommending cleaning up battery corrosion.
Bro go to Walmart, buy that shit for $20 and do it yourself. Takes 10 minutes. Post on the cars group and I'm sure someone will do it for free. You could buy a brand new battery for ~100.
Make sure to have them top off the blinker fluid while they are at it.

Every business is designed to put profits first. Dealerships are no different. You'd be surprised how much of it your can do on your own, along with a few youtube videos and a manual. Do you really think dealers know better than the manufacturers? Sure, there's always stuff to fix, but is it necessary?
Follow the manual. Cars have been requiring less and less scheduled maintenance, oil change intervals are getting longer, etc. This cuts in to a major profit center for dealerships and they’re outright lying to generate more business in many cases.
Damm $300 for an air filter.
Doesn't hurt to do it earlier. The cabin air filter should be less than $20 and cleaning battery corrosion is almost free. I suggest getting those done yourself after watching some YouTube tutorials.
I recall he asked more than $50 for cabin filter and around $300 for engine air filter. Battery corrosion was I think more than $30-40
COTDAM!! Anyone can do all that for less than a $40 in material during a lunch break. Go to an independent shop for much cheaper if you cant turn a wrench. Stay away from stealership unless you have a warranty.
