Would you discuss and tell your counsellor about your next move into your career if you eventually want to get out of the consulting. (Counsellor is basically a manager or SM within your team who helps with your career progression at EY. You may or may not work with him directly on projects).
Is counselor like a formal mentor/coach at EY? I think it'd depend on the relationship honestly. I could talk freely about stuff like that or my frustrations with my mentor while at big 4 because she didn't really give a sh*t. Was a decent listener though but always somehow ended up talking about herself and her achievements. I wouldn't talk about something like that to the actual managers I worked with since they'd likely bring on other folks and leave me hanging on the bench.
What the fuck is a counselor
Sorry about not explaining the term counsellor. Counsellor is basically a manager or SM within your team who helps with your career progression at EY. You may or may not work with him directly on projects.
Edit your original post.
nah definitely not LOL - you should always tell everyone you're still enjoying ur job, especially if you don't have another offer yet
Agree with this, never tell them your next career move especially if it doesn’t involve staying with them 😂
No Don't be frank this level.it will hurt you
It depends on your counselor. Some counselors are open to discussing that esp. if they’re about to leave themselves. If you’re uncertain, I wouldn’t bc they represent you in year-end discussions and if they mention you want to leave, you may get passed up for a high raise / promotion. Ask a trusted mentor instead.
Noo! If the move doesn’t happen as quickly as you’d think, it could backfire as they will know your intentions but then again, I know a few people who are very open with their counselors, may be try to spark up an informal discussion to gauge how they feel about consulting, if they hate it as well, that’s your cue or else if they are dedicated to their job and want to make partner, I’d steer clear.
Maybe not about career move outside EY but I might talk about internal movement
I don’t think you should share it. You don’t want to make a bad impression of yourself until the last day

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Confused - are you going to talking them about a move still within consulting? Or about how you’re eventually going to get out?
I meant would you tell your counsellor if you plan to get out of consulting in a year. Would you discuss the career prospects out of consulting.
Ah - yeah nah I wouldn’t personally Not good risk/reward there You can find good advice from other ppl than your manager. Best bet honestly, would be to find someone in the same field at a different firm and ask them. Someone who wouldn’t go and tell your counselor
