As an international master’s student, is it beneficial to go to career conferences like GHC, SHPE, SASE, NSBE, or SWE for job opportunities? What else can I do apart from applying online, if my University's career fair isn't fancy? #nsbe #swe
No I am sorry I havent heard about NSBE, go to these conferebces if you arent getting a phone screen in big tech but if you are getting a phone screen then I dont think going to these conferences is going to help you.
Thank you! Helps a lot.
True. Back when I was studying in Iowa , couldn't get recruiters even to phone interview and even tier two companies would refuse to come to career fairs because of the remote location. I attended SWE where atleast I could meet and talk to companies like Uber, Apple etc
Was SWE worth it ? Were you able to get interviews ?
Better than my University career fair. Got phone interview from Ford. Attended only the first day though. My roommate got an internship. According to me if you are not getting calls, you got to hit everywhere. LinkedIn, online applications, referrals, and yes conferences too. You never know which one works out
A lot of companies go to GHC so that is pretty good. Dont know about others. Most value for buck is probably going to NIPS which at this point is basically an industrial networking conference more than anything.
Grace Hopper is a recruiting Mecca. Not sure about the others.
I missed GHC last year :( and I'll graduate by the time it happens this year. Do you know about NSBE ?
