Any product marketing managers here in high tech? 1)Could you please share your career path ? 2)What are some of the activities that you engage in everyday?does your role lean towards strategy or execution ? 3)Some good and not so good facts about this career path ? ( interested in hearing from professionals who work at growing companies and FAANG,and are on work visa ; others are welcome too)
Stick to coding.
Depends on the company. WLB is better in marketing by far, but you do get paid less. Stability is fine, at least at the larger companies.
Thanks. I care about a good WLB and have a career path. I don’t care if I am earning the max. I’m a software engineer and the sedentary nature of the job is draining me out.
There are two aspects to my role: Inbound Marketing which helps me answers the questions: What do we build, who do we build for, what do they need and why? (More strategic) The second part is Outbound Marketing: the product is built at this point, so how do we package it? How do we talk about it? How do we get it out to market? (Strategic+tactical) I am in a fast growing company (mid size -700 ppl, 5 people PMM team). In larger companies you are doing a small sliver of the role above. Hope that helps!
Sounds pretty interesting. How would you rate the stress level? Thanks
Following. Also curious what career paths are common to eventually move to pmm
