Which is a lucrative career path for someone who is working in Data Science for the last 4 years? I like the field but I feel it's hard to stay relevant in this field and there's no well defined career progression. Data Scientist who worked 8 years back primarily working in SAS and now are struggling etc. I have MS (not Phd) and I try to update myself with the latest techniques and tools but it's hard to catch up. As you grow more senior, focus more on being able to identify high ROI DS problems rather than the latest algos. This can translate into either management or PM.
Thanks
As an example of what bad looks like - I had one data sci manager suggest building a recommendation algorithm to set the order of 4 different products to a user - but users are generally able to self select the most appropriate product when given the right amount of information. The kinds of gains from certain reco problems are only worth the effort if you have a large enough business for it to optimize against.
