BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
I have 22 yoe as a Cisco UC (unified communications) engineer. 75/25 post-sales/pre-sales. I'm customer facing working on projects, large and small. I have a CCIE in Collaboration as well but I'm busting my ass to get my AWS certs. My main reason for making the switch is that Cisco's product has gone downhill, at least from the UC side, over the last 10 years. Too many bugs, crap documentation, and pushing out garbage solutions which are nowhere near ready for production use. Am I too old to make this switch (mid-40s)? I don't think so. Cloud seems really exciting to me and I feel that with all the consulting experience I have I should be able to make it work. TC right now is about $200k.
Switch to cloud based communication companies like twilio, ringcentral, dialpad your UC experience will be valued by them..
Thought about that but I'm not sure I want to keep plowing down the UC path. It might be worth a look though, I'm not sure what type of $ I can expect to get at one of those companies.
I have the same background as you but less yoe. You shouldn’t have a problem getting interviews. I have interviewed with Meta, Amazon, and NVIDIA. I have another interview with Amazon for a Sr TAM role soon. Meta was for TPM and NVIDIA was SA. No need for AWS certs with Amazon but you would need to brush up on the services and such for all the tech questions.
Awesome, thank you!
AWS certs aren’t that necessary … And No, your age and career level is not a barrier to switching to cloud. You can do it and it should be an easy transition for you with great dedication. Take couple of online trainings (videos).
Move. Make the switch goto MSFT. Modern work
did you switch to them from Cisco? I have an interview for Modern work soon.
Should be relatively easy.
