Careers After TI

I am currently an applications engineer for Texas Instruments in Dallas with 3.5 years of experience. I like my current role, the culture of my team, and I honestly seem to have a pretty good career path ahead of me at this company according to my boss. However, many people on this app talk about how terrible the pay is here and how they can’t wait to leave. With inflation making everything crazy expensive right now, I’m starting to really notice this, and I’m considering different jobs outside of TI if they don’t offer significant salary increases next year. I fear that if I stick around for too long, I might miss some key opportunities to really grow my compensation as an engineer. For those of you who used to work at TI (particularly in the systems/apps roles), what companies/fields did you move to and why? Did TI try to make a counteroffer to keep you? Are you happy with your decision to leave? YOE: 3.5 years Base: $85k Grade: JG26 Location: Dallas, TX #semiconductor #texasinstruments #engineer

What is your role exactly? What technologies do you work on?

Apps engineers are basically high tech customer support for the products in their respective product lines. We talk with customers and the field on how to use our parts, help with debug, and recommend parts from our portfolio based on the system requirements. We also build PCBs to showcase our devices (EVMs) and also publish application reports/white papers on various topics related to our portfolio. Not going to be too specific since I don’t want to give my identity away, but I work with analog ICs

System/App engineers in TI interact with customers and BUs. They know a little bit of every thing (HW, SW, arch, design, validation, C++, protocals domains) but usually don't have in-depth grasp of skillsets that's required by external job market. You best bet now is to take advantage of Education assistance. Get a part time Master degree in EE/CS while focusing on more technical part in your analog IC projects. Then move on to an external offer with 50-100% raise.

You can easily get into apple , Google meta or Amazon, they are always looking for skills like board design customers interaction, lab debug etc, also they payment will be 2x what you make in ti.....actually if you go any where you will get good pay, don't belive you manager

This is just no true. The newer TI employees i have interacted with don’t stand a chance acing interviews at Apple. If what you said was true all relatively new hires would have left by now…

Were you able to get a good raise in Feb? I know people with JG26 having 97k to 100k base. I hope you can get the salary you deserve.
