I have a friend who has a offer from carta for a software engineer role. Here are the details Base: 180k Equity: 200k over 4 years YoE: about 5 years Level: mid level Does carta do sign on bonus / additional options grant ? Good/bad/ugly ? Also have Competing offers from other startups roughly around the same TC. Next steps in negotiating ? #offers
Is it RSUs? If so how much is the unit price?
Yes. From another blind post, I would say somewhere around 13$
That comes to around 15k units. I'd ask for more, at least 20k units for a senior level.
Ah I see, you're coming in at mid level. So may be it looks right? But as always, if this is just starting numbers, you can ask for more.
What valuation is carta using for this offer? My friend had a call with the recruiter and they quoted a 6.9B valuation which is derived from cartaX transactions. Last valuation from series F was around 3.8B. Seems fishy.
How does that seem fishy?
They haven’t released any public data about the volume of those trades. That is like saying a few of our employees sold carta shares at 2x the value of our last valuation, so all new offers will be made at the new valuation.
Carta is base, equity only package? No sign on, no perf bonus? I was also quoted a preferred price of $40.30 per share. I like that it is liquid when vesting because of their platform but that price sounds high and they must have high base salary if that’s the only cash. Edit: Recruiter went out of their way to tell me they are a 5 day a week in office culture post Covid just to clear...great selling point to make overly clear. Smh Thoughts? TC: 🥜
Yes, my understanding is that each unit is $40 as well and I’m unable to find any public information to confirm that.
