I received offers from both Carta and Etsy. Weighing between the two and would appreciate any perspective. For context: I work at Disney. I have ZERO WLB in my current mid-level *non tech* role where I make $115k with no bonus: 90-100 hour weeks, working weekends, holidays. Working during PTO is expected - being highly responsive/present on email (my boss says - no one should feel any difference in your response time while you're out --- despite having an OOO message) and you're expected to attend higher leverage meetings. A perfect example: My boss asked me to not only work on my wedding day but also "offered" to reimburse me for WiFi for me to work on the flights to and back from my honeymoon. For this reason, having a more junior role, even if I don't make more money is attractive but maybe that's just because I'm exhausted? Maybe I'll feel differently once I'm in a new job? Carta: Sr role Etsy: Jr role Carta: $168k Etsy: $125k Carta manager vs Etsy manager - both seem nice. Office/commute: both are hybrid and I don't mind coming in. Both are easy commutes. Where I need your perspective: WLB: if anyone is aware of WLB at either company? What about culture? Upside? Carta is private but they're worth over a billion. Not sure about Etsy. Does brand recognition matter when applying for future employment? Thank you so much!!!
That’s crazy. You better do absolutely nothing during your two week notice period.
Anything but Disney in such a case. Just a point to note, with the kind of slogging that you do at Disney and the scope you possibly handle, aren't you a senior level already? Also even if you aren't if you slog that same way you did in Disney for the first few months in Carta you would probably reach that level. Go for it. Are you non tech? TC seems low for your position, I would try to negotiate and up the Carta offer a bit. Week
Mid level role! Non tech, I work in HR.
i would say etsy is a safer and had an amazing office in brooklyn. there hasn’t been many successful IPOs as of lately. But if you have some risk tolerance, Carta seems like a much better org to work in. Smart folks there and a great product.
That’s a very low comp. I hope it’s just the base
they’re obviously not in engineering, get off your high horse
Nah, I like heights
Carta
